Darren Dedo, KIRO Newsradio crime reporter, covers crime overnight in the Puget Sound region on the morning of July 14: A shootout in Tukwila between three cars, a second possibly related theft of a vehicle in Tacoma, two teens injured in a drive by, and a stolen car set on fire after a road rage incident.

Three car shootout on I-5 in Tukwila

Washington State Patrol is searching for three cars involved in a shooting in Tukwila on Interstate 5, north of State Route 900, just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

According to trooper Rick Johnson, the confrontation started when a Dodge Challenger and a Kia pulled onto the shoulder during a disagreement. A nearby Dodge Charger was struck by the ensuing gunfire, which prompted its driver to pull out a handgun and shot through the window of the Kia.

No injuries or arrests have been reported, but state patrol is asking for anyone with more information to come forward.

RV stolen in Tacoma, related to a string of other thefts

On Monday, Thieves stole “everything” from the family of a U.S. Coast Guardsman while they moved from Michigan to a new posting in Seattle.

Now a second theft of an RV in the same area has been reported.

The stolen RV was filled with mementos from their late father, James Talley, who loved to camp with his family.

“This is a man who just loved his family,” said Talley’s daughter, Rebecca Owens told KIRO 7. “That camper was all the things we did with him; all the times, the memories we spent with him were in that camper.”

The family says they’re desperate to have their possessions back because while an RV can be replaced, sentimental items can’t. They’re now asking anyone with information about their belongings to come forward; not to report them to the police, but so that they can reclaim their sentimental items.

The two families believe that the two instance are related.

Lynnwood drive-by injures two teens

Lynnwood police are investigating a drive by shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon at 3500 block of 164th Street.

The teenage victims, a boy and a girl, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said a group of teens was walking on a sidewalk when two were struck by gunfire, with the group on the sidewalk returning fire at the car.

It is believed the victims and the suspects knew each other and the shooting was gang-related, investigators said.

Deputies are searching for at least two suspects.

Stolen Car ablaze after road rage incident in Fife

Police are investigating a road rage incident that resulted in gunfire and two car fires early Wednesday morning in Fife.

At 2:57 a.m. Fife PD were called to Wapato Way East Bridge over I-5 about a collision which later turned into a confrontation between the two driver.

The driver of a stolen BMW out of Bellevue was tailgating another driver traveling north on 70th Avenue East, police said. The BMW then fired at the other vehicle and rammed it off of the embankment leading to the overpass.

After the car finished rolling down the hill it caught fire.

The driver was able to escape and crawled a short distance. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police later found the stolen BMW fully engulfed in flames on Highway 99 in Milton but no suspects were found.

Police are still investigating the incident.
