$3.6 million of Khat seized by U.S. Border Patrol

U.S. Homeland Security Agencies, Customs, Border Protection, and U.S. Coast Guard seized more than 20,000 pounds of dried Khat with an estimated street value of $3.6 million.

According to a news release, the Khat was found at a Seattle Maritime Port and shipped from Kenya as tea.

Federal authorities say it is the largest seizure in the Puget Sound area.

Pierce County sheriffs catch domestic abuser in bushes

Pierce County 911 received a call on Sunday at noon about a domestic violence protection order violation in the Spanaway area near 224th and 38th Avenue East.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was threatening to break down the door, and he was known to carry a firearm.

The suspect took off in his vehicle before units arrived on the scene.

They began searching neighborhoods. Someone called 911 to report the suspect’s suspicious behavior when he parked his car, ran, and started jumping over fences.

Deputies were able to set up containment in the area and called for a K9 to assist.

Lakewood Police Department K-9 Rock arrived with his partner to help track the suspect. After a short track, the suspect was hiding in a thick patch of the brush between two properties.

The deputies, with the assistance of K-9 Rock, were able to convince the suspect to surrender without any resistance.
