West Seattle water main burst, left 2,000 temporarily without water

From the air, it looked like the geyser “Old Faithful” spouting over part of West Seattle on the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 15.

But Seattle Fire Department officials say it was actually a 24-inch water main that suddenly burst open, knocking out water service for many, and damaging a half-dozen nearby apartment units.

The water was shut off eventually, but the pipe still needs to be repaired.

An estimated 2,000 people living in the area have had their water service restored, but may need to run their faucets a bit to get the sediment that was stirred up out of their pipes.
