Running mate resemblances

Senator Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s choice for Vice President, bears a striking resemblance to Donald Trump’s running mate, Governor Mike Pence.

Both are deeply religious—Kaine is a committed Catholic, Pence an Evangelical Christian. Both have sons currently serving on active duty in the Marine Corps. Both have served in Congress, as well as running their states as governors.

Kaine is clearly more conservative than the progressive Hillary, and Pence is more clearly conservative than the populist Trump. And both Pence and Kaine have another important quality in common: they are more appealing, more qualified and less scandal-scarred candidates than their deservedly unpopular running mates.

In fact, Governor William Weld, the Vice Presidential nominee of the Libertarian Party, is also more impressive than his ticket mate, Governor Gary Johnson. If only Pence, Kaine and Weld replaced their counterparts in the presidential race, the frustrated public could celebrate an outstanding choice of three formidable White House contenders.
