Russell Wilson will be in Seattle again Monday night, but this time, clad in orange, blue, and possibly some unsavory names from the crowd.

After the shower of boos he received at Climate Pledge Arena last month, it’s anticipated the new Broncos quarterback could get a frosty reception from fans in the Emerald City.

When asked by reporters how Seahawks fans should welcome Wilson, Pete Carroll diverted from his characteristically positive tone, saying, “I’ll leave that to the 12s.”

KIRO Newsradio Reporter Sam Campbell spoke with lifelong Seahawks fans, who had mixed opinions on Wilson’s first re-appearance since leaving the team in March.

“They’re going to give him a standing ovation,” one fan said. “You know, Russell Wilson himself said hopefully it’ll be positive and it will be.”

“I probably would boo because you know I got to root for the Seahawks,” another fan said. “You know, that’s just part of the game.”

Russell Wilson disputes critical report, calls Seattle special

“Well, he put us on the map,” another fan stated. “Really, I mean, before he came here, we were a laughingstock. You tell people you were a Seahawks fan and they’d chuckle, now you tell people you’re a Seahawks fan, they respect it.”

Head coach Pete Carroll made the announcement two weeks ago that Geno Smith, instead of newly-acquired Drew Lock, will be the franchise’s starting quarterback. Smith has a career record of 13-21, including a 1-2 stint last year when he had to replace an injured Russell Wilson.

Kickoff at Lumen Field is at 5:15 pm Monday night.
