Protests have been a staple at Seattle Central Community
College since it’s creation, but administrators are looking
at changes in the rules that some are considering a
violation of free speech.

Seattle’s community colleges are looking at restricting
where people can gather on campus, putting time limits on
protests and requiring 24-hours notice before gathering.

The proposals are a response to the occupy protest that
turned into a two-month camp on the Seattle Central campus
last fall.

The rule changes would also include no camping and no signs
larger than 3-by-5 feet.

The rules would apply to all three Seattle community
colleges.

There’s a public hearing on the proposed changes on Tuesday.
Another one is scheduled for April 5 after the students
return from spring break.
