Prosecutors: Teen not high on ‘Spice’ during murder

Prosecutors have charged a Tukwila, Wash., teen with second-degree murder in the March 17 stabbing death of 17-year-old Jasmyn Tully.

Kolby Clark, 17, admitted to killing Tully because he “felt an urge to hurt someone,” according to court documents. The same documents make no mention of a claim by Clark’s relative that the teen was high on a synthetic drug known as “Spice” or “K2” at the time of the murder and did not remember his actions.

“His uncle told police he had used synthetic marijuana in the past,” said Ian Goodhew with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. “But there is no evidence to suggest that he was under the influence at the time of this homicide.”

Tully and Clark were at an apartment in the 11600 block of 42nd Avenue South when police say Clark began choking Tully in her sleep. When she began to struggle, Clark stabbed her in the neck, according to court documents.

Clark will be tried as an adult under a Washington state statute that requires those 16 and 17 years old accused of a class A felony be tried in an adult jurisdiction, Goodhew said.

If convicted, Clark faces up to 20 year in prison. His arraignment is scheduled for April 2.
