A juvenile humpback whale died Sunday morning in the Fauntleroy area of West Seattle.
The whale died around 10:30 a.m.
NOAA Fisheries officials are at the scene investigating.
“(When we arrived), it was live. … We were trying to keep it wet and comfortable. And it unfortunately has passed away as the tide went out,” Jessie Huggins, with the Cascadia Research Collective in Olympia, said.
Officials said they weren’t sure how old the whale was, but that it was a juvenile. They intend to perform an examination.
Details will be added here as they come in.
