Records show Aaron Reardon campaigning done on county time

Mar 6, 2012, 5:14 AM | Updated: 11:18 am

Records released during the Washington State Patrol investigation into Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon indicate he spent a lot of county time and resources to work on his re-election campaign.

Executive Reardon scheduled more than 100 hours with his campaign fundraiser during times his public schedule listed he was in county staff meetings dealing with county business.

Using county time, resources and money to support a campaign is illegal.

The Seattle Times reports Executive Reardon used his taxpayer-funded cell phone to solicit campaign contributions during some of those meetings.

The state patrol began investigating Reardon after a woman claimed he used taxpayer money to support a longtime affair with her.

The investigation has expanded to include how he might have used his office resources to support his campaign.
