Update on Ivanov court appearance
Allen Ivanov, the man who allegedly shot and killed three people at a Mukilteo party in July, pleaded not guilty at his first appearance in a Snohomish County courtroom on Monday afternoon.
Ivanov pleaded not guilty plea to three counts of aggravated murder and two counts of attempted murder. Court documents state that he has admitted to the shootings, KIRO 7’s Joanna Small reports.
A trial date has been set for Oct. 7, and the judge for the case is Janice Ellis. While the trial date has been set, Small reports that it likely won’t take place at that time. Rescheduling is anticipated.
The victims’ families were present behind Ivanov as he stood in the courtroom.

Original report on Ivanov court appearance
A man charged with opening fire and killing several people during a party in Mukilteo will be arraigned in court today.
Allen Ivanov is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. He faces three counts of aggravated murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Ivanov, 19, opened fire with an AR-15 rifle during a July 30 party, according to police. He killed three people, including his ex-girlfriend.

Ivanov seemed depressed recently after he and his ex-girlfriend broke up, according to reports. He reportedly did not like seeing is ex-girlfriend with other men.
Recently released documents show that Ivanov sent friends text messages alluding to his plans. One message read: “I’m killing everyone at a huge party.” He also referred to himself as a “future shooter.”
The Associated Press reports the young man attempted to reconcile with his girlfriend the day before he opened fire.
The 19-year-old told one friend that he was going to take a gun safety class because he didn’t want to “mess up.” He sent a text about 90 minutes before allegedly killing three people.
His attorney was quick to point out how easily the man was able to get a rifle.
“Obviously, if he didn’t have the firearm this could have been a different case. Is the firearm responsible? Well, no,” he said.
Ivanov could face the death penalty.
