Following today’s passing of a cold front, cooler and drier air has already began to follow in it’s tracks. This, and a strong surface high moving south through Northern Canada is opening the door for Fraser River Outflow to move through parts of Western Washington.
With winds increasing a wind advisory has gone into effect this evening and will remain in effect through 6am Sunday. San Juan County and Western Whatcom and Skagit counties could see sustained winds from the northeast moving at 25-35mph with gusts upwards to 50mph.
Power outages and downed trees are very likely. Despite the advisory ending Sunday morning, winds around Western Whatcom county will not settle down dinner time tomorrow.
Further south, strong winds gusts aren’t as concerning as the wind chill I’m expecting for southern portions of the Cascades. In fact, a Wind Chill Advisory will go into effect tonight at 8pm and remain in effect through Monday afternoon. Cold air from incoming winds could make the temperature FEEL like 15 degrees below 0.
If there’s a silver lining to these upcoming weather events it’s the dry skies and ample sunshine we’ll have for both Sunday AND most of Monday.
The next weather system to bring precipitation to the area will likely be Tuesday. How much precipitation is still up in the air (literally). With snow levels near 500ft a mix of lowland rain and snow can be expect, but as the weekend comes to a close I should have a better understanding about what you can expect and where.
