Where Seattle PARKing day will take over streets, parking spots

Seattle PARKing Day begins Friday and will take over stretches of streets around the city.

Seattle officials approved a total of 50 temporary parks this year after expanding PARKing Day to two days — Sept. 16-17 between 10 am. and 7 p.m. The city is calling this year’s event PARKing Day Plus.

The parks will either take over spots on Friday, Saturday, or both.

Seattle PARKing Day expands to two day for 2016

The parks are supposed to be creative and put on by Seattle residents. In the past, Seattleites have certainly let their creativity shine.

This year, locals can look forward to: a park with a Prince sing-a-long and trivia game; educational parks about book printing or tree identification; watercolor painting; lounges made of pool noodles; and dancing.

But the Prince park may be singing in the purple rain during this year’s PARKing Day. The weather forecast has some showers slated for the two days the parks will be set up. As of Thursday’s forecast, Friday will have some passing clouds and possibly some rain. And Saturday will likely have more rain. Temperatures will hit a high of 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Seattle Department of Transportation has released a map of all the park locations. Most are located in the city’s core neighborhoods, but some will be located further out in West Seattle, Greenwood, or Lake City.
