‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ is funny but has a controversial ending

“Bridget Jones’s Baby” is the third installment of the Bridget Jones films which began in 2001. Now, obviously, Bridget is having a baby. But as with the past films, nothing is so simple.
I give “Bridget Jones’s Baby” 2.5 out of four stars. It would be three stars, except for its very controversial ending. I think some people will be frustrated by it.
“Sully” is a celebration of everyday heroism
“Bridget Jones’s Baby” is one of those films where some of the scenes are flat-out funny. It’s an R-rated movie. The film is pretty specific about some of the aspects of the pregnancy experience. The moment of the delivery has slapstick elements.
It’s cute and quirky, and of course, none of it is believable.
At the beginning of the film, Bridget Jones has a 43rd birthday. She’s working at a TV talk show as a producer. Her on-air star, who is younger and saucier, persuades Bridget that it’s been too long since she has gone out and partied. So they go to a music festival where Bridget has a quick, one-night experience with a man – played by Patrick Dempsey. She doesn’t know who he is.
And 10 days later she runs into Mr. Darcy, played by Colin Firth, who is now married to someone else … and something happens.
A baby is made and the movie then becomes a mystery of who the father is.
One of the funniest scenes in “Bridget Jones’s Baby” is when Bridget is speaking to her obstetrician, and she says, “It’s very important to me to know which one of the times I was intimate with a partner would have produced this baby. Because it was one of two times, it was 10 days apart. Is there any way of knowing which one it was?” Of course, she is informed that until they do a DNA test, there is no way to know.
The unbelievability is that she goes through almost the entire movie without telling either guy of the existence of the other – having them both believe they are the father of this coming baby. So they both are participating throughout the pregnancy.
She has to decide how to play this. And you have to watch to the end to find out, along with these two men, who the father is. In any case, the movie proceeds to an ending that is very controversial.
