A smash-and-grab robbery damaged Shawn Kemp’s Cannabis shop in Seattle at 1st Avenue and Denny Way early Wednesday morning.

Police arrived on the scene around 1 a.m. to find a Hyundai, believed to be the vehicle used in the incident, partially on the sidewalk and street with its engine still running. The back end of the car was heavily damaged, and the fortified metal doors of the shop were smashed in, creating an opening wide enough for people to enter.

Smash-and-grab surveillance footage shows crime

Surveillance footage showed six to seven individuals entering the store and stealing various products, primarily targeting cheaper items.

The store’s co-owner, who lives nearby, heard the alarms and called police.

“I was still on the phone with 911 and I told them, ‘Hey, I see a second car that just pulled up and there’s more people getting out,'” co-owner Tran Du told KIRO Newsradio at the scene. “And then all of a sudden, I can hear the sirens and then I heard them screaming, ‘Hey! Cops! Let’s go!'”

At that point, they took off.

Display cases were shattered, and there were muddy footprints inside the store. It did not appear that any cash was stolen.
