Seattle police are investigating an alleged hate crime that happened outside an LGBTQ bar in Capitol Hill on Feb. 19.

Witnesses saw a dark blue Lexus circling the 1200 block of East Madison Street starting around 11:30 p.m. The people in the car allegedly yelled anti-gay slurs at bar patrons outside, with the vehicle making about 10 passes over the course of an hour.

Passengers from the vehicle even approached the bar on foot, before returning to the Lexus and circling back. During one of these passes, someone in the car allegedly hung out a window and shot “pellets” or “water beads” at the people standing outside.

Witnesses saw two or three young white men inside the car which police describe as a modified dark blue Lexus sedan.

At least a dozen people were reportedly gathered outside the bar when the incident took place. Police are asking for any additional victims or witnesses to come forward to help with the investigation.

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is urging anyone with relevant information to contact the department’s Tip Line at (206) 233-5000 or email SPD_hatecrimes@seattle.gov.

The investigation is still ongoing as authorities work to find the suspects.
