Rantz: Bill Maher humiliates ‘sad-looking lady’ Sen. Patty Murray for lacking charisma

Real Time host Bill Maher called out Washington Senator Patty Murray for being “sad-looking” and lacking charisma.

The left-wing comedian excoriated the Democratic Party for its politicians lacking charisma and not connecting with the average voter the way President Donald Trump has been able to. Maher singled out one exception: Sen. John Fetterman.

“Here’s the thing. Voters aren’t really savvy about the issues but they have made it clear what is important to them. Authenticity, b*lls and charisma,” Maher said on the February episode. “Trump has that package, and so does Fetterman. He’s only been a senator two years, and he’s already more famous than most of his colleagues. Quick, I dare you to name this sad-looking lady from Washington State who’s been in the Senate for 30 years. You can’t teach charisma or b*lls.”

On screen, Maher showed a dour-looking Patty Murray to the crowd’s laughter.

Maher isn’t wrong, and the reaction to his comments proves it.

Rather than refuting the claim, Washington Democrats will ignore this segment—because deep down, they know he’s right. Washington voters have sent Murray to the Senate for over three decades, and in that time, what major legislative accomplishments can she truly claim? What bold leadership moments stand out? What policies has she championed that have fundamentally improved Washingtonians’ lives?

Murray coasts through elections not because she’s an effective leader or a compelling representative of her constituents, but because she has the magic “D” next to her name and a well-funded campaign machine. She doesn’t engage with voters in any meaningful way. She rarely faces serious challengers, and when she does, she relies on generic attack ads and party-line fearmongering amplified by local, left-wing media to limp across the finish line.

Washington voters have essentially rewarded her for being a Democratic placeholder, not a dynamic leader.

Is Patty Murray the best we can do? A senator who blends into the background and avoids scrutiny because she never dares to do anything memorable?

You don’t need to be a rock star to be effective in Washington, D.C., but you should at least show up for the people who elected you. You should at least try to lead. Murray’s political longevity is a testament to how low Washington voters have set the bar. As long as she has the right party affiliation and the right donor support, nothing else seems to matter. No real engagement. No major legislative wins. Just a seat-warming tenure that stretches on indefinitely.

Washington voters deserve better. The question is: will they ever demand it?
