Update

Macy’s CEO Terry J. Lundgren issued a statement on the day the Macy’s in the Cascade Mall was scheduled to reopen.

Q13 reports that Macy’s was scheduled to open for the first time since a man allegedly walked into the store on Sept. 23 and opened fire with a .22-caliber rifle, killing four people in the store — a fifth victim later died at Harborview Medical Center.

The mall reopened on Monday.

Samantha Gonzalez, of Mount Vernon, wants mall employees to know the community is behind them.

“I have an extra heart for Macy’s because I worked there throughout my last pregnancy,” Gonzalez said. “So I know a lot of the employees and it had to be so scary to be there when it happened. And I want them to know the community still supports them, we’re still going to come, we’re still going to be there for them.”

KIRO 7 reports Gonzalez was one of about 200 people to walk through the mall Wednesday posting signs of encouragement for the store’s employees.

The man suspected of killing the five people was identified as Arcan Cetin, 20, of Oak Harbor. Cetin, who was arrested Sept. 24, was charged with five counts of first-degree premeditated murder.
