Tacoma puts medical pot shops on notice

Aug 3, 2011, 5:29 AM | Updated: Oct 10, 2012, 7:28 am

Cities across Puget Sound continue to draw their own lines in the sand when it comes to medical marijuana. Tacoma weighed-in Tuesday night.

Tacoma’s City Council put an emergency moratorium on medical marijuana operations, including collective gardens which are now OK under state law.

City leaders hope this six month moratorium will give them the time to craft zoning and licensing guidelines so they can regulate the businesses.

Kirkland, Federal Way, and Kent have also instituted similar moratoriums, but Mukilteo went the way Seattle did last week by approving pot gardens and businesses and requiring them to pay licensing fees and follow zoning rules.
