As the spring season approaches, travelers are eager to lock down the best destinations for their spring break getaways!
Travel booking site KAYAK says there are few destinations that are trending as spring break hot spots.
Trending spring break destinations
Maui, Hawaii easily takes the crown as the top trending domestic spring break destination with flight interest up 22% compared to last year, according to KAYAK. The site credits the city’s “tropical allure.”
Long Beach, California, follows closely behind as the second most popular trending spot, with an 11% increase in searches. Not far from Los Angeles, Long Beach attracts visitors looking for a beach destination that’s both affordable and packed with activities.
Globally, there’s been a 44% increase in searches for Santiago de los Caballeros and 43% for Tulum, Mexico.
Booking smart for spring break
Booking airfare early can let you take advantage of discounts.
Kayak reports the best airfare deals include Long Beach and San Juan, Puerto Rico. They recommend you book domestic spring break trips between three and four weeks in advance.
Traveling for spring break might actually be cheaper than around upcoming holidays. Hopper’s lead economist for travel booking told the Washington Post that the most expensive times to travel might be around Easter (April 20) and Passover (April 12-20), with domestic fares surging 40%.
Experts recommend traveling on a Monday or Tuesday if you’re looking to save even more on flights and hotels.
