Rantz: Intellectually bankrupt Patty Murray upset COVID vaccine isn’t pushed on healthy kids

Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), who previously supported COVID vaccine mandates, is now upset that the federal government no longer recommends vaccines for healthy children and pregnant women. She complains that this takes away choice. She did so unironically.

“When it comes to vaccinating pregnant women & children, the benefits greatly outweigh the risks. People should be able to make that choice for themselves,” Murray posted on X. “(Health Secretary) RFK Jr. is making it less likely that insurance will cover this vaccine and less likely that people can have that choice.”

This is political gaslighting at its most transparent; and it’s only being employed because she knows left-wing Seattle media won’t call her out. She positions herself as a defender of personal choice, conveniently ignoring her past advocacy for coercive policies.

Are you old enough to remember when Murray supported vaccine mandates?

During the height of the pandemic, Murray was a vocal supporter of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Emergency Temporary Standard, which mandated COVID vaccinations or regular testing for workers. She criticized efforts to overturn this mandate, stating that such actions would “throw our economy, our communities, and American lives into jeopardy.” Her unwavering support for mandates was evident, even when they infringed upon individual liberties.

Children, particularly those without serious, underlying health conditions, are not at risk of severe illness from COVID. Studies have shown that the virus poses virtually no risk to healthy children, and the vaccines do not prevent transmission. Yet, Murray continues to advocate for widespread vaccination among this demographic, while pretending there are no risks.

According to a Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations report, the Biden administration concealed information from the public about the risks of myocarditis from the mRNA vaccines, particularly among young boys. And despite knowing the data being reported and collected had significant gaps, the administration, Democrat lawmakers, and their media allies shamed and tried to cancel anyone even asking good-faith questions about the risks.

COVID vaccine is unnecessary for healthy kids

It’s 2025. Finally, we’re allowed to be honest about the COVID vaccine and the exceptionally flawed public health guidance with considerably less fear of being canceled for honesty.

Murray knows her constituents in Washington state are living in a post-facts world where their entire view of most issues is informed by their ideological bigotry and an echo chamber diet of left-wing media. Many of them still wear masks, while alone and outside.

They don’t actually have COVID, but they’ve convinced themselves they’re doing their part to stop the spread of the virus. It doesn’t don on them that they can’t spread a virus they don’t have. They’re equally clueless about the fact that you don’t catch COVID outside.

So what’s really behind Murray’s indescribably bad faith post on X? Money and power.

Murray takes a lot of funds from Big Pharma

Murray’s financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry raise reasonable questions about her motivations.

According to OpenSecrets, she received more than $3.4 million in Political Action Committee (PAC) contributions during the 2019-2024 election cycle, with a significant portion coming from the health sector. This financial backing from Big Pharma should have us second-guessing her policy positions when they would help financially benefit her donors, especially when she opposes measures that could reduce drug prices, such as allowing the importation of cheaper medications from Canada.

So she puts healthy kids and pregnant women (which she’s willing to suddenly define) at unnecessary risks when it makes her donors wealthier?

Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., despite some of his undoubtedly controversial views, pushes informed consent and individual choice in medical decisions. Not offering a needless recommendation doesn’t stop someone from making a choice to get a vaccine they almost assuredly do not need. It might mean it’s more expensive, but it should be more expensive if they don’t need it. I shouldn’t have to subsidize a choice not based in science or even the great societal good.

Murray’s criticism of RFK Jr. is less about public health and more about maintaining a narrative that aligns with her political and financial interests.
