The Stafford Creek Corrections Center (SCCC) is set to remodel its former solitary confinement jail unit and house 8 offenders from the Green Hill School, a maximum-security juvenile rehabilitation center, according to KING 5.

By the fall, the SCCC will utilize the unused portion of the jail for 46 offenders from Green Hill and will hire additional staff.

But for now, only the eight men will be relocated to the state prison next month.

Solving the Washington jail’s needs

Tana Senn, the secretary of the Washington Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), expressed the need for these revisions.

“We need the space,” Senn said, according to KING 5. “This is actually a fabulous opportunity for us to restart and redesign a program for young men.”

Senn noted the update may only be a minor fix, and the Green Hill location may require supplementary developments.

“We anticipate having an additional 100 young men coming into juvenile rehabilitation in the next year,” Senn said, as reported by KING 5. “So we’re going to need additional space.”

The eight men are scheduled to be relocated to SCCC on June 9.
