A Sequim fisherman’s body was recovered from the water near the Dungeness Spit, where he went missing in mid-May.

Ty Coone, a 21-year-old, had been fishing on his kayak near Dungeness Bay around 4:30 p.m. on May 14, according to KING 5.

Michele Scott Duncan, Coone’s mother, confirmed to KING 5 that his body was recovered on June 1, more than two weeks after his disappearance.

Coone placed a 911 call and reported that he was “in distress and possibly drowning”, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

At the time of his disappearance, Coone was fishing during a Small Craft Advisory, and the GPS coordinates located Coone in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, according to KING 5.

The Coast Guard searched the area for 16 hours and recovered Coone’s kayak and flotation device, but no body was found, KING 5 stated.

The CCSO reported a body found near the Dungeness Spit that was awaiting identification, according to The Sequim Gazette.

A GoFundMe fundraiser was created by friends of Coone’s to honor his life and legacy.
