Olympic gold medalist track and field athlete, Sha’Carri Richardson, was arrested July 27 for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac).

Richardson was arrested on a fourth-degree domestic violence charge, according to a police report obtained by the Associated Press.

The police report noted that an officer at the airport was notified of a disturbance between Richardson and her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman.

Camera footage of the incident showed Richardson reach out with her left arm, grab Coleman’s backpack, and yank it away. Coleman was then shoved into a wall after Richardson got in his way, and he tried to step around her.

The report also mentioned that Richardson appeared to throw an item at Coleman, which TSA believed may have been a pair of headphones.

“I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim,” an officer said in the police report, according to the Associated Press.

Richardson was booked into the South Correctional Entity jail in Des Moines on July 26, and released on July 28.

“USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter,” USA Track and Field said in a statement.

Richardson competed in the opening round of the women’s 100-meter event at the U.S. track and field championships in Oregon on Thursday. She has an automatic bye to the world championships in Tokyo as the 2023 defending champion.

Richardson previously tested positive for marijuana at the 2021 Olympic Trials, and did not compete at the Tokyo Olympics. In 2024, Richardson anchored in the U.S. 4×100 relay to win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
