A Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper’s vehicle was hit by a driver suspected of a DUI early Friday morning on I-5 south near the Convention Center in Seattle, WSP Trooper Rick Johnson announced.

The trooper was parked along I-5 near the Convention Center exit, tending to a different collision when his vehicle was struck.

The collision occurred at approximately 3 a.m., and the HOV and left lanes were blocked for an investigation.

“While [a WSP trooper] was outside of his vehicle, a driver came through the scene, struck the patrol car that was blocking the roadway, and the driver was later arrested for DUI,” WSP Trooper Chelsea Dehart told KIRO Newsradio.

Nobody involved in the incident recorded any injuries as a result of the collision.

Johnson confirmed at 3:13 a.m. that the driver who hit the WSP patrol car was under arrest for DUI.
