Homemade weapon found under toilet at Mason County Jail

A homemade weapon was discovered by Mason County Jail staff during a routine cell search on Aug. 28, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
The weapon was a sharpened piece of metal wrapped in cloth. Corrections staff found the weapon concealed beneath the toilet in a single-occupancy cell.
“The weapon, pictured here next to a standard highlighter for size reference, was safely recovered without incident,” the Mason County Sheriff’s Office wrote. “Mason County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies responded, took possession of the weapon, and completed a case report.”
Deputies with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office took possession of the weapon. The Mason County Prosecutor’s Office is considering filing a charge of possession of a weapon by a prisoner, which is classified as a Class B felony under Washington state law.
“This recovery reflects the vigilance and professionalism of our corrections staff and their commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for both inmates and employees,” the Mason County Sheriff’s Office wrote.
