Meth lab discovered outside Bremerton residence, operator arrested

An active methamphetamine laboratory inside a Bremerton residence was shut down, with the operator in custody Thursday.

Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) officers served an arrest warrant at approximately 12 p.m. in the 4200 block of N.W. Lakeview Drive, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) announced.

A 44-year-old man from Bremerton was the target of the warrant. DOC officers located the suspect in a canopy storage area and workshop outside of the residence.

Methamphetamine laboratory found in Bremerton

Officers discovered what appeared to be cooked methamphetamine and a methamphetamine manufacturing laboratory when exploring the premises. DOC alerted local authorities of its findings and requested assistance from KCSO. After deputies arrived, they secured the scene and obtained a search warrant.

Bremerton police officers also responded to the scene and assisted by deploying a trained drug-detecting K-9 officer and handler.

The K-9 officer, Mayhem, sniffed out multiple areas within the canopy that housed illegal narcotics. Washington State Patrol (WSP) was notified of the laboratory and dispatched a laboratory takedown team to the residence.

The area was closed off due to potential risks of exposure to hazardous chemicals, and WSP wore protective equipment as it worked to secure evidence and remove dangerous materials.

“A meth lab is a very dangerous situation, using really toxic, volatile chemicals, and in a residential neighborhood,” Kitsap County Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin McCarty said. “Those are explosive chemicals, so if a fire were to start, it could very easily spread, very rapidly, and do a lot of damage in the neighborhood.”

The 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody on the DOC warrant, and an investigation into the alleged methamphetamine laboratory remains ongoing.
