As severe flooding and storms are battering Washington, the state’s beloved Christmastown in Leavenworth is taking a hit.

All Christmastown events have been cancelled for the weekend, including the Village of Lights display and Gazebo events, the City of Leavenworth stated on its website. Leavenworth Village of Voices’ annual Christmas in the Mountains concert series Saturday show is also canceled.

The lights have gone dark in the normally packed Bavarian-themed town as residents hunker down and wait for flood waters to subside. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced Friday that the 49-mile closure on US 2 between Skykomish (milepost 50) and Leavenworth (milepost 99) will remain through the weekend.

Flood warning in effect for Chelan County

A flood warning is currently in effect until Saturday for Chelan County. According to Leavenworth officials, more than 5,000 people in the area are without power. Downed trees and power lines have been reported throughout neighborhoods.

“Restoring power—especially to critical medical resources—is the top priority,” the City of Leavenworth wrote on its website.

Visit Leavenworth stated on Facebook that crews are clearing fallen trees and power lines, repairing infrastructure, and working to restore services.

Officials noted an equipment crew is standing by to make sure the lights are back on for the following weekend.
