A firefighter with the Marysville Fire District was injured while fighting a house fire early Thursday.

A residential fire was reported at approximately 1:45 a.m. Jan. 1 in the 9100 block of 61st Drive N.E. in Marysville.

“Callers reported heavy smoke and flames that had quickly engulfed the home and spread to the recreational vehicle in the backyard,” the Marysville Fire District stated in a social media post.

The occupants of the home — two adults, three children, and four pets — were able to safely evacuate without injury. Unfortunately, a firefighter suffered injuries while working to extinguish the flames.

“He was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett for treatment,” the Marysville Fire District wrote. “He has since been released and is recovering at home.”

The fire was extinguished around 3 a.m. Jan. 1. The fire spread quickly, destroying the house and an RV in the backyard.

The family is currently receiving help from the American Red Cross.

“We would like to thank North County Regional Fire Authority, Tulalip Bay Fire Department, Everett Fire Department, Snohomish County Fire District #22, Snohomish County Fire District 19, Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue, Marysville WA Police, and Snohomish County 911 for their mutual aid and support during this incident,” the Marysville Fire District wrote.

The cause of the fire and the damage it caused is currently under investigation.
