Vehicle crashes into building in Gig Harbor, causes gas leak

Gig Harbor Police and Fire crews responded to the scene of a vehicle that crashed into a building in the 4700 block of Point Fosdick Drive, causing a gas leak Tuesday afternoon.
“The initial investigation determined that a 65-year-old male operating a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck entered the business parking lot from 48th Street NW,” according to a post on the Gig Harbor Police Facebook page. “According to the driver, while navigating the turn into the parking lot, his feet became entangled between the accelerator and brake pedals, causing the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally.”
The pickup truck hit a stop sign and a parked vehicle before traveling over the sidewalk and into the north wall of the business, the post said.
One person in the building was hurt and taken to the hospital. That person’s injuries were described as “non-critical.”
The driver was not hurt.
“The collision caused significant damage to the building and involved vehicles, as well as damage to a gas line resulting in a gas leak,” authorities said. “The impact area was evacuated as a precaution, and Puget Sound Energy responded to the scene and successfully contained the gas leak.”
Police said the driver cooperated with the investigation, and no criminal violations were identified at the time.
