A vigil has been planned in Seattle to honor Renee Good, the woman shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis.

The gathering will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Pier 58, according to an X post.

“We gather in solidarity to call for justice, reform, and an end to the terrorizing and killing of community members by ICE,” the post stated.

Seattle mayor calls out federal government

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson released a statement Thursday, calling out the federal government.

“I am furious at the federal government’s abuse of power,” she said. “It is unacceptable to kidnap people who are simply going about their lives. There is no place for it in Seattle.”

Wilson shared that Good was a poet, a caring neighbor, and a mother.

“These are not abstractions. These are real people, real families, real harm,” she added.

Wilson addressed the fear and outrage felt in the Seattle community.

“I’m heartbroken and outraged, too. This moment demands action. Here’s what we’re doing and how you can help. Seattle is a welcoming city. We already have laws in place that forbid the local police from aiding ICE in most instances. The police will enforce these laws,” she said.

Wilson said the mayor’s office is working with the police chief, city attorney, immigrant rights groups, and local leaders to identify legal arguments and resources to protect the Seattle community.

“This is a scary situation,” she added. “And situations like this are when we show ourselves who we are and what we believe. In Seattle, we practice solidarity. Everyone should be safe in their homes, in their workplaces, and their city.”
