A 45-year-old man was arrested after crashing a stolen car into a Magnuson Park light pole while possessing several grams of methamphetamine and heroin on Tuesday.

At approximately 2 a.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers were patrolling near Seattle Children’s Hospital and located a stolen vehicle, SPD announced.

The suspect failed to stop and fled from SPD officers at a high rate of speed. A short time later, officers found the car crashed into a light pole near Sand Point Way N.E. and N.E. 65th Street.

SPD also found the suspect running away from the vehicle and apprehended him after a brief foot chase.

Drugs seized, multiple charges filed after Magnuson Park collision

The suspect was arrested for several crimes, including eluding a police vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, hit and run, obstructing a police officer, and a $15,000 warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm.

SPD seized 13 grams of methamphetamine, 2.3 grams of heroin, and fentanyl pills from the suspect. Officers later towed the stolen vehicle away from the scene.

The suspect was ultimately booked into the King County Jail after he was medically evaluated at a local hospital.
