5.5K+ power strips sold on Amazon recalled after reports of sparking, melting

More than 5,500 CCCEI-branded power strips sold on Amazon have been recalled due to the risk of a fire if the power strips become overloaded.
The recall includes power strips with 6-foot, 10-foot, and 15-foot power cords that were sold on Amazon.com from April 2024 to January 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced.

CPSC noted that the power strips do not contain supplementary overcurrent protection, creating a risk of fire if the power strips become overloaded. The resulting fire could cause serious injury or death from burns and inhaling smoke.
The power strips have a black metal enclosure with six receptacles made of black plastic and individual on and off switches for each receptacle.
The back of the power strip contains a white label that reads, “Relocatable Power Taps. Caution keep children away. To reduce the risk of electric shock, use only indoors, risk of electrical shock. Do not plug into another relocatable power taps or an extension cord. Use only in dry location. Made in China.”
The product was manufactured in China and sold by Middle Way Electronics, also of China, for between $23 and $30.
There have been two reports of the power strips sparking and melting, as of this reporting. There have currently been no fires or injuries as a result of the defective power strips.
Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the CCCEI-branded power strips and contact Middle Way Electronics to receive a full refund.
