PCC Community Markets to open new Seattle store this fall

PCC Community Markets, the 73-year-old community-owned grocery store founded in Seattle, has announced it will open a new store in Seattle’s Madison Valley neighborhood this fall.

The new store will be located at 2925 E. Madison Street, offering its full assortment of groceries PCC is known for, including locally grown organic produce, ethically raised meat and seafood, and a large variety of seasonal products sourced from around the Pacific Northwest, PCC announced.

PCC noted that all of its offerings will uphold its industry-leading quality standards, which spans sustainable agriculture, fair labor, animal welfare, and more.

“We signed this lease ten years ago, and it’s been a long road to get here as the project worked through the local process, with input from the neighborhood along the way. That makes it especially meaningful to finally open our doors and put down roots here,” said Amy Chow, acting CEO of PCC Community Markets. “This neighborhood has such a strong sense of community, and we look forward to being a part of people’s everyday routines.”

The store will feature PCC-branded products and Field Day products, along with a bulk section curated toward staples at accessible prices. An in-store deli will offer a wide variety of freshly prepared meals, seasonal salads, artisanal sandwiches, hot soups, and grab-and-go options.

PCC anticipates the store will employ approximately 75 staff members, including a skilled deli staff for preparing its signature items in-house. PCC noted it supports its staff with competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and a long-standing culture centered on care and respect.

“I’m so excited to welcome PCC Community Markets’ newest neighborhood store to Madison Valley,” said Seattle City Council President Joy Hollingsworth. “As a multi-generational Seattleite, I’m proud to support a local, homegrown business that reflects the values of our community. As a farmer who runs a family-owned farm, I deeply appreciate PCC’s commitment to supporting local agriculture. And as a city official, I recognize PCC not only as a valued employer and economic driver, but as a true community partner, leading on issues from hunger relief advocacy to environmental sustainability.”

Construction is already underway, with the store on track to have its grand opening this fall. Additional details will be announced over the next couple of months.

Seattle’s homegrown grocer continues regional expansion

PCC was founded in 1953 by 15 local families, and has since grown to more than 122,000 active member-owners. PCC’s mission as a certified organic grocery retailer is to promote the health and well-being of people and communities through good food, while also cultivating local, organic food systems.

There are currently 16 PCC neighborhood stores across the Puget Sound region, including locations in Bellevue, Bothell, Burien, Edmonds, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond, and Seattle.

The many Seattle locations include Ballard, Central District, Columbia City, Downtown (Corner Market), Fremont, Green Lake, View Ridge, and West Seattle.
