wrong-way driver DUI crash renton I-405...

A female driver was arrested for DUI after traveling the wrong way on I-405, resulting in a fiery crash in Renton.

Overnight Tuesday, the driver, a 24-year-old woman, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-405, just north of SR 167, when she crashed into a sign, causing the car to burst into flames.

“It could have been a lot worse, obviously,” Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Rick Johnson told KIRO 7. “Thankfully, not a lot of traffic coming the other way – ended up hitting a WSDOT sign near a construction zone.”

No injuries were suffered in the crash, but WSP troopers reported signs of impairment, prompting them to arrest her for DUI.

The road was shut down as fire crews arrived and quickly put out the fire. A video of the crash can be seen here.
