A person stabbed in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood late Sunday afternoon boarded a northbound Sound Transit light rail train before first responders could intervene, the agency said.

Other passengers spotted the injured rider, who was treated at Symphony Station, according to Sound Transit public information officer David Jackson.

“They were obviously injured. People noticed. First responders responded at Symphony Station,” Jackson said. “The person was treated and transported. Service was disrupted for about 20 minutes, and King County Sheriff’s Office cleared the scene,” Jackson said.

Sound Transit Deputies from the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) responded to Symphony Station around 4:30 p.m. after getting reports of a man who appeared to be bleeding from his abdomen.

“Deputies ultimately located the person who had suffered some sort of injury and was bleeding,” according to Detective Michael Ramirez of the King County Sheriff’s Office. “Deputies quickly provided medical aid until Seattle Fire arrived. The adult male was transported to Harborview Medical Center.”

As of Sunday evening, the man was in serious condition.

“The victim said (the stabbing) happened near a bar in Pioneer Square,” Seattle Police Detective Shane Weatherford told KIRO Newsradio. “Officers located the location of the assault and spoke to witnesses.”

No suspect had been arrested.

“Our thanks go out to all the people who respond to this event,” Jackson said. “We responded quickly and in numbers. Sound Transit is doing our best to provide a safe environment for our riders.”

Train service was back to normal as of Sunday night.
