The Washington Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has ended its investigation into Puget Sound Physicians.
The AGO announced Tuesday via a press release that a $410,000 settlement has been reached, with over 1,300 patients receiving some portion of that money.
Throughout its investigation, the AGO, led by Attorney General Nick Brown, found that Puget Sound Physicians “repeatedly failed to issue refunds to a subset of patients who qualified for charity care.”
“Our state’s charity care laws are designed to make sure people never forgo life-saving medical care out of fear that they can’t afford it,” Attorney General Nick Brown wrote in a press release. “When providers fail to follow the law, our consumer protection team stands up for Washington patients.”
Puget Sound Physicians has to deliver refunds to patients within 120 days. This includes interest accumulated over time, according to the AGO.
The AGO also clarified that while the amount you could receive back depends, $300 is the average amount patients will get back, according to the AGO.
Settlement refund checks will be sent via mail to the “most current address” of the patient, according to the AGO.
