The Tacoma Police Department (TPD) is actively searching for a suspect who allegedly tried to blow up a bail bonds business in Tacoma on Monday.
At approximately 6:09 p.m., the suspect walked up to Bad Boys Bail Bonds in the 4800 block of Pacific Avenue, according to The Tacoma News Tribune.
The suspect placed an explosive device near the front entrance of the business and ignited it. Three employees were inside the business at the time.
The suspect walked away from the device, and about 30 seconds later it exploded, causing “significant damage to the front door and surrounding glass,” TPD spokesperson Shelbie Boyd said in a news release obtained by The Tacoma News Tribune.
Golden Baines, 13, was nearby when the explosive device was placed and exploded.
“I was sitting there watching like, what is this guy doing, and then I see the smoke coming up, and I was thinking is he like lighting a firework or something, or paper, and then it just blew up,” Baines told KIRO 7.
No one was injured by the explosion. Police are considering potential felony-level charges for the suspects’ use of explosives.
“Tacoma Police detectives are investigating the incident. The Bomb Squad responded to conduct a post-blast investigation, and forensic personnel also responded to process the scene,” the release said, according to The Tacoma News Tribune. “Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Tacoma Police Department.”
