A domestic violence incident in Grays Harbor Sunday night resulted in a standoff with law enforcement that has stretched into Monday.
As of 1 p.m. Monday, the standoff is still active, with just the suspect in the home.
“We are still attempting to negotiate with the suspect, who, from the Facebook post you probably saw, had barricaded himself into the residence after a domestic violence incident,” Kevin Schrader, the undersheriff with the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office, said. “We lost communication with him about 2 o’clock this morning, and they are now kind of methodically trying to safely search the residence to see if we can locate him inside.”
Deputies with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Aberdeen Regional Special Response Team were called to a home on the 900 block of Joann Way in Central Park late Sunday.
According to Schrader, the suspect assaulted his partner and barricaded himself inside when deputies arrived at the residence.
“We were able to safely get all the occupants of the house outside, but he would not surrender and armed himself with a knife at one point, and so we backed out and began negotiating with them at that point,” Schrader added.
Law enforcement has been on scene since late last night, making the standoff more than 12 hours long, as of this reporting.
“Please avoid the area while we continue to negotiate with the suspect,” the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office stated.
While less lethal munitions have been used to break out windows, no shots have been fired.
