Police are searching for a driver accused of stealing a pickup truck and plowing into a group of people outside an Everett restaurant early Sunday morning, injuring several people following a fight in a parking lot.
The incident happened outside El Muchacho Alegre on Broadway.
Six people were hit, according to Everett police. Four men were initially taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and police said one of the victims was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
A spokesperson with Everett PD said they did recover a shell casing at the scene but believe no one was shot.
Witnesses and nearby residents described a chaotic scene in the early morning hours.
“We heard gunshots. Two gunshots that woke up the people who live behind me,” one neighbor said.
Another witness said he arrived to find the area flooded with emergency responders.
“It was like 3:46 in the morning to be exact, and I just saw the whole place surrounded by cops in the parking lot,” said Sergio, who witnessed the aftermath.
According to investigators, the driver crashed the stolen truck about a block from the restaurant and then fled on foot. Police have not identified a suspect and are continuing their search.
“It’s crazy,” Sergio said. “Well, my reaction is like ‘I’m glad that I didn’t show up that night.’”
The incident has renewed concerns among some neighbors, who said they have experienced ongoing problems around the restaurant and surrounding area.
“There are also cars racing up and down the alley at night,” one resident said. “A lot of people hit the metal barrier that they say they installed for sound protection.”
Another neighbor said residents have repeatedly raised concerns with the business.
“We’ve asked them. We’ve talked to them nicely about it and they just simply don’t care,” the neighbor said.
KIRO 7 visited the restaurant seeking comment. Workers declined to speak on camera, and management did not respond to emailed requests for comment.
Some residents said they believe police have responded appropriately to complaints but are frustrated by what they see as a lack of action on broader neighborhood concerns.
“Well, there are two houses for sale on our street right now,” one neighbor said. “So, that might answer that question.”
The Everett Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is leading the investigation. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to contact Everett police at (425) 257-8450.
