Crybaby transit activists keep pulling down anti-ST3 signs

I don’t care if people share the same political beliefs as me. I don’t care how you vote. I’m content knowing some people share my views, while others don’t — the vast majority of people hold opinions they legitimately think will make their communities a better place. I do care, however, when you get in the way of people expressing their views.
That happened twice in the Eastlake neighborhood last week.

Some arrogant, crybaby transit activist took down a pair of Vote No on ST3 signs. No, I don’t know exactly who is doing it, and yes, I’m making a reasonable assumption as to who is pulling the signs down. Both anti-ST3 signs were on an island between along Eastlake Avenue East. But they both were pulled down and tossed aside, into some heavy brush near the sidewalk.

I noticed them on a recent walk thinking to myself, “Oh wow, how gutsy to have these signs up in Seattle, which seems to be heavily in favor of ST3.”

The next day, the anti-ST3 signs were taken down and tossed aside.

I put them back up because, though I agree with the sign’s message, it’s not OK to take down political messages you disagree with. There were plenty of signs on the strip of land, mostly (though not exclusively) for progressive campaigns. Somehow they remained untouched. But the No on ST3 signs weren’t so lucky.

On another walk Monday, three days after I reposted the signs, they were, again, taken down. One was placed in that same spot in some roadside bushes, hidden from public view. Again, I put them back up.

I will continue to put them up when you take them down; the same way I’d put them back up if a campaign I disagreed with suffered a similar fate. This is not OK and you have no right to remove content you disagree with. If you’re so confident in your campaign’s side, then be an adult, and use your words to convince people the other side is wrong. Your positions are not above reproach.
