Ever been to a pub crawl? I haven’t. I don’t like strangers. But many people have and I’m told it’s a fun night of visiting great pubs, tasting some delicious drinks, and socializing with strangers (and friends) over a shared love of alcohol and awkwardly forced conversations with people you’ll never see again. Too bad one Tacoma activist group is trying to ruin your buzz, all in the name of Sound Transit 3.

The organization Downtown on the Go is combining two passions: Tacoma’s craft brewing scene and Sound Transit. According to the Tacoma News Tribune, the group is hosting Link & Drink, which allows pub crawl participants to use the free Link light rail in Downtown Tacoma to get from pub to pub.

If that were it, this wouldn’t be a bad idea. But it’s not all there is to the crawl. During the event, the organization will be pushing for voters to support ST3 on their ballots for the Nov. 8 election.

“We’re hoping to spark some transit love,” Holly Bert, a coordination for the organization, told the Tribune.

If the pub crawlers love the Link Light Rail during this event, that’s great. But ST3 won’t help them. They already have the service they need to enjoy the local pubs. Beyond that, I can’t think of anything more annoying than a transit activist pushing his or her politics on you while trying to enjoy your buzz.
