Gloves are off for Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett comedy roast

The Seahawks may be high off their recent victory over the Rams Thursday, but at least for receiver Tyler Lockett, it’s about to get low.

“Forgive the pun, you don’t want to go too low,” said Drew Barth with the Dori Monson Show. “Otherwise, it’ll takes out his knee caps, and that’s no good for anyone. Tyler has got plenty to make fun of.”

Seahawks lock up NFC West title with 24-3 victory over Rams

On Sunday, Lockett will be the subject of a comedy roast to benefit the ICAN project, which is dedicated to educate about, and fight childhood obesity. It will be hosted at the Parlor Comedy Club in Bellevue.

Barth is among the comedians slated to perform. Also on the ticket is Seahawk Michael Bennett. As well as ESPN Seattle’s Danny O’Neil and Gee Scott.

“The thing about Tyler Lockett is that he’s coming into this thinking, ‘Hey, you know what, you better be on you’re A-game,’” Gee said. “Tyler Lockett tells me we better be on our A-game. And I don’t think Tyler Lockett has ever been to a comedy roast.”

“It’s going to be pretty bad,” he said. “He’s a little guy. I don’t know if he’s going to be able to get a permission slip to be out that late.”

Lockett is 5’11” and about 170 pounds — small when considering the size of many football players. But that didn’t stop him from catching seven passes for 130 yards during Thursday’s game, including a 57-yard touchdown from quarterback Russell Wilson.

“Now that we know that he’s that confident, the gloves are off,” Barth said.

Barth and Gee gave Seattle’s Morning News a little preview of their roasting skills Friday before the event. KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross pointed out that comedians should be careful. Lockett is fast and can chase them down.

“What’s he going to do if he catches you?!” Gee said. “He’s Tyler Lockett!”

It’s likely Lockett won’t be the only target that night. There will be plenty of other celebrities in the room.

“I can’t wait to make fun of Richard Sherman,” Gee said. “Lately, he’s been very grouchy. I sent him a text last night. I said ‘Sherm, you’re gonna be the guy in the neighborhood who tells all the kids to stay off his grass.’ He texts back and says, ‘Nope, I’ll just have a big gate.’”

“Of course, Michael Bennett,” he said. “I can’t wait to talk about him and his small, small uniform pads.”
