After two mornings with snow showers, things are expected to warm up for a few days in Western Washington.

KIRO 7 meteorologist Nick Allard says temperatures should warm up into the low- to mid-40s and the snow level should rise to around 1,000 feet by Tuesday afternoon.

“Look for more rain and about normal temps for Thursday and Friday,” Allard said.

On Tuesday morning, Allard said most areas were sitting around the freezing mark.

“Above a few hundred feet we’ll see some additional light accumulation, but below that I expect it to be wet snow that shouldn’t stick to the main roads, but probably some side roads,” Allard said.

Allard said snow was fairly scattered and most widespread over the eastern part of the Straight and that’s going to push through parts of Snohomish County.

“So you’re going to see more scattered snow showers but I think the bigger concern is that the temps are anywhere from 28 to 35 …  so you might find some ice, and know you might have to scrape your windshield but we shouldn’t see widespread lots of snow. It’d be isolated pockets, especially in Snohomish County, warming up from there.”

KIRO Radio’s Chris Sullivan says it is still snowing in parts of the region, with icy side streets. Although I-5 reopened Monday evening after an overturned tanker truck blocked the freeway all day Monday, Sullivan said the typical slowing hit the freeways early, with I-5 northbound slow, as well as issues in Federal Way through Des Moines.

“We’re not out of the woods yet with this weather so be prepared,” Sullivan said.

After yesterday’s morning weather, schools are taking no chances. Bellingham school district closed, and multiple others running on a two-hour delay.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, which goes into effect from 4 p.m. Tuesday evening through 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Cascades of Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King, Pierce and Lewis counties. Snow accumulations are expected to be 6 to 10 inches tonight, with storm accumulations of 10 to 18 inches through Wednesday morning.

As for the future forecast, Allard expects just a few scattered showers with temperatures warming into the low to mid-40s. The snow level should rise to about 1,000 feet this afternoon, with a few more scattered showers and gusty-to-breezy weather this afternoon.

On Wednesday, he expects scattered showers and warmer temps in the mid to upper-40s with breezy conditions.  More rain and about normal temperatures are expected for Thursday and Friday. More rain is likely on Saturday, with a better chance for wet snow Sunday, Allard said.
