Arcan Cetin was found hanging Sunday night in his cell, the Skagit County Prosecutor’s Office told KING 5.
Cetin, 20, confessed to the murders when he was caught on Whidbey Island nearly 24 hours after the shooting took place. He was charged with five counts of first-degree murder and was facing life in prison and was awaiting a mental evaluation before his case moved forward.
Video from the Cascade Mall shows Cetin arriving at the mall in his car on Sept. 23. He then walked through a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant, into the mall, then through Macy’s and exited to the parking lot. Cetin moved his car closer to an entrance at Macy’s, retrieved a rifle from the trunk of the car, and walked back into the department store. According to security footage, he was at Macy’s for about one minute. After the shooting, Cetin left the rifle on the makeup counter and left the store. Video also shows Cetin driving away from the mall.
Cetin was arrested near his Oak Harbor home about a day later.
