An uprooted tree fell onto a car traveling on southbound I-5 through Fife Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred on southbound I-5 near 70th Avenue at mile post 138 shortly before 3:30 p.m. It hampered traffic for nearly two hours while fire crews removed the tree from the freeway.

The driver of the vehicle was transported with injuries to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Traffic backed up behind the incident for about 10 miles. Four lanes were initially blocked by the tree, but by 4:20 p.m. only the right lane was blocked. The South King County Fire Department responded to the scene to remove the tree.
