Local band Handful of Luvin’ stopped by the mixtape to play music and chat. Check it!

Handful of Luvin’ have been a part of the local music scene since 2002 but it wasn’t until 2005 that they were actually able to get a full band together. The guys have been touring almost non-stop trying to get their name out there and it seems to be working too. In 2008 they were voted third best local band of Western Washington by King 5 Evening Magazine and have been selling out venues across the Northwest to adoring, appreciative crowds. The quartet, made up of singer/guitarist David John, violist Andrew Joslyn, bassist Patrick Files and drummer Mike Knight can’t help but immerse themselves in the production of their craft so it makes sense that they already have three albums under their belts and have enough material in their catalog for another three full length records. At first, it’s easy to mistake Handful of Luvin’ for just another set of passé ex-college jam band rockers in the Dave Matthew’s Band tradition, but a second look reveals a quirkier and more rewarding aesthetic. A rock quartet featuring a rocking classically trained violinist, Handful refers to their music as “fiddle driven roots rock,” and their cheerful blend of folk-rock, reggae and world rhythms, plus secondhand baroque and Celtic influences with catchy pop hooks, strongly recalls the vintage sound of Actual Tigers, the madness of Flogging Molly, and the moodier, more experimental side of Wilco.
