When your wife calls just to say ‘I love you,’ don’t ignore it

Voicemails may be out of vogue, but if your wife leaves you one, listen to it before you respond.

Dori’s tech-savy daughters have taught him something over the past few years: Listening to voicemails is a waste of time. With cell phones that tell you who your missed call was from and text messages to communicate short questions and reminders, a voicemail is obsolete.

Dori’s gotten so he doesn’t listen to voicemails, and despite telling his wife this, on Thursday she left a message anyway.

He called her right back, said hello, and reminded her to not leave a voicemail. After a few minutes of chit chat and some schedule talk they hung up. But the voicemail was still sitting on his phone, so he listened: ‘Hey D. I was just thinking how much I love you. I was just calling to say how much I love you and I hope you’re having a great day.’

Since listening to her voicemail, Dori has tried calling his wife four times, but her phone goes straight to voicemail. “I think she’s hurt.”

Dori worried that his wife thought he listened to the voicemail before calling her, and that even though her message was full of love, Dori found it annoying. That wasn’t the case.

Dori and his wife just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

News anchor Maura Gallucci recommended to Dori (who already said he wasn’t going to leave his wife a voicemail) he should send his wife flowers.
