If you want to fully realize how lazy we’ve become (which, as a matter of fact, correlates with how technologically advanced and savvy we’ve become), take a look at a brand new Amazon.com service: Prime Now.

Prime Now is a one-hour delivery service now available in Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, and Kirkland neighborhoods. If you’re a Prime subscriber, you’ll have access to this service, which allows you to purchase everything from crayons to beer and have it delivered to your home or office in under an hour. The cost of the service is $7.99, though it is free if you opt for two hour orders in Seattle.

You’ll need the Prime Now app to use the service.

Their delivery area covers the neighborhood where KIRO Radio is located, so I jumped on the app to find out all the products I don’t need, but suddenly want. I don’t eat gluten, but can get Cheerios delivered in under hour? Plus milk!? Sure, I can walk the six blocks to the corner market, but that would take me seven minutes! And it’s moderately warm outside! And I’m busy writing!

Listen: Is Kristen Bell too lazy to create jobs?

This is an awesome service by Amazon – even if mostly unnecessary. We’ve become so lazy, unwilling to even walk or drive a few blocks to a store, that a brilliant local company like Amazon saw a market opening for this kind of service.

It makes sense and is nothing new. What killed Blockbuster Video franchises? Netflix and the ability to order a DVD or Bluray and have it mailed to you. But we got so lazy, we didn’t even want to walk to our mailboxes, so now everything is streamed.

And it’s awesome.

Yes, we’ve become lazy, but it’s by choice and we can just as easily choose not to be lazy. In the meantime, we see a local company coming up with disruptive technology and services that can, in fact, make life a little easier. I mean, how often have you desperately needed a six pack of orange flavored Tic Tacs, but couldn’t leave the office because you were furiously working on updating your Facebook profile?
