Mother gets more than 6 years in connection to son’s meth overdose

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Pierce County woman has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison in connection to her 2-year-old son’s methamphetamine overdose.

The News Tribune reports that 27-year-old Alyia Iverson was sentenced Friday for manslaughter after pleading guilty.

Iverson was originally charged in July 2014 after her son, Nathan, died from drinking methamphetamine-laced water from his mother’s bong in 2012.

Prosecutors say Nathan had ingested enough methamphetamine to kill an adult before his mother noticed he wasn’t breathing nearly two hours later.

Iverson’s attorney says she is a long-term addict and that she accepts responsibility for her actions.
