Seattle motorcycle officer injured in collision

Police say a motorcycle officer was injured in a collision with a car Monday morning in Seattle at an intersection south of downtown.

According to Seattle Police Detective Mark Jamieson, a motorcycle officer was headed west on Lander Street between 4th Avenue South and Occidental Avenue South when traffic came to stop because of a train crossing.

“Sometime while traffic was stopped, we believe that a car pulled out, maybe attempting to make a u-turn to avoid waiting for train traffic,” says Jamieson.

At that point, police believe the car struck the officer on the motorcycle.

Fire Department medics took the 57-year-old man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He’s in stable condition with possible broken bones.

The driver involved is cooperating with the traffic collision squad, who are investigating the incident.
